Ο πρωθυπουργός, Αλέξης Τσίπρας εγκαινίασε το περίπτερο της Κίνας που είναι η τιμώμενη χώρα στη φετινή 82η Διεθνή Έκθεση Θεσσαλονίκης.Νωρίτερα ο πρωθυπουργός στη διάρκεια της συνάντησης που είχε με τη διοίκηση της ΔΕΘ-Helexpo και τους εργαζόμενους στη διεθνή έκθεση αναφέρθηκε στον στόχο της κυβέρνησης να οδηγήσει τη χώρα στην οριστική έξοδο από την κρίση τον Αύγουστο του 2018. 
Όπως ανακοινώθηκε κατά της συνάντησης, στην Διεθνή Έκθεση της Θεσσαλονίκης που θα γίνει του χρόνου, τιμώμενη χώρα θα είναι οι Ηνωμένες Πολιτείες της Αμερικής.
Η διοίκηση της ΔΕΘ διατύπωσε το αίτημα για ανάπλαση του χώρου όπου βρίσκονται οι εγκαταστάσεις της και ο πρωθυπουργός αντέδρασε θετικά και είπε ότι αυτό που ενδιαφέρει την κυβέρνηση είναι η περαιτέρω διεθνοποίηση της ΔΕΘ. 
Νωρίτερα και στην αρχή της συνάντησης που είχε με τον πρόεδρο της ΔΕΘ-Helexpo Τάσο Τζήκα και τα μέλη της διοίκησης ο πρωθυπουργός ανέφερε ότι «αισθάνομαι στη Θεσσαλονίκη σαν στο δεύτερο σπίτι μου».
