Οι ηγέτες των Δημοκρατικών και των Ρεπουμπλικάνων στην αμερικανική Γερουσία συνεχίζουν τη διαπραγμάτευση σχετικά με το σχέδιο νόμου που θα επιτρέπει την αύξηση του ορίου δανεισμού του αμερικανικού κράτους και θα παρέχει προσωρινή κρατική χρηματοδότηση. Σύμφωνα με γερουσιαστές οι ηγετικές ομάδες Δημοκρατικών και Ρεπουμπλικάνων είναι κοντά στην επίτευξη της συμφωνίας, παραταύτα υπάρχουν σημεία που πρέπει να διευθετηθούν.

Τόσο η Γερουσία όσο και η Βουλή των Αντιπροσώπων έχουν προγραμματιστεί συγκλίσεις σήμερα, Τετάρτη,  όπου θα συζητηθεί οποιαδήποτε συμφωνία και αν επέλθει. Το Κογκρέσο αγωνίζεται επί σειρά ημερών να φτάσει σε συμφωνία πριν από την καταληκτική προθεσμία της Πέμπτης, όταν το αμερικανικό υπουργείο Οικονομικών έχει πει ότι θα ξεπεραστεί το νόμιμο όριο του δανεισμού της χώρας.
