Η εταιρεία Terrafugia ανακοίνωσε ότι βρίσκεται σε εξέλιξη η κατασκευή του πρωτότυπου μοντέλου της TF-X, ενός αυτοκινήτου που έχει τη δυνατότητα να ίπταται και να προσγειώνεται κάθετα.
 


Το νέο πρωτότυπο μοντέλο της Terrafugia είναι εξοπλισμένο με ανατρεπόμενους εκτοξευτήρες, που του επιτρέπουν να απογειώνεται και να προσγειώνεται κάθετα στο έδαφος.
 
Αντίστοιχη τεχνολογία χρησιμοποιείται στα Boeing V-22 Osprey του αμερικανικού στρατού.
 
Σύμφωνα με την Terrafugia, το TF-X θα διαθέτει υβριδικούς ηλεκτρικούς κινητήρες και θα μοιάζει με ένα μικρό τετραθέσιο αεροπλάνο
.
 
Οι ηλεκτρικοί κινητήρες του TF-X θα αποδίδουν 600 ίππους ενώ εν πτήσει θα τίθεται επιπλέον σε λειτουργία μηχανή ισχύος 300 ίππων.
 
Θα έχει αυτονομία άνω των 800 χιλιομέτρων ενώ υπολογίζεται ότι η ταχύτητά του θα φτάνει τα 320 χιλιόμετρα την ώρα.
