Η γενική διευθύντρια του Διεθνούς Νομισματικού Ταμείου, Κριστίν Λαγκάρντ, υποστήριξε ότι «προτεραιότητα για το τραπεζικό σύστημα πρέπει να συνεχίσει να είναι η ανακεφαλαιοποίηση και η αναδιάρθρωση και όπου απαιτείται το κλείσιμο τραπεζών».

Σε ομιλία της σε σημερινή εκδήλωση στο «Οικονομικό Κλαμπ» της Νέας Υόρκης για τις παγκόσμιες δράσεις πολιτικής που απαιτούνται ώστε να ξεπεραστεί η οικονομική κρίση, η επικεφαλής του ΔΝΤ, αναφερόμενη ειδικότερα στην κρίση χρέους στην ευρωζώνη, επανέλαβε τη θέση για οικονομική και νομισματική ένωση, διατυπώνοντας την άποψη ότι χρειάζεται πολιτική με περισσότερες συλλογικές λύσεις.
