Όσοι υποβάλλουν αίτημα για πρόωρη συνταξιοδότηση δεν δικαιούνται πλήρη σύνταξη ακόμα και μετά τη συμπλήρωση του ορίου ηλικίας.

Τη δυνατότητα να ανοίξουν έως και πέντε χρόνια νωρίτερα την πόρτα εξόδου έχουν 120.000 ασφαλισμένοι, που θα επιλέξουν τη λύση της πρόωρης συνταξιοδότησης. Ωστόσο χρειάζεται προσοχή, καθώς η επιλογή της... ταχύτερης εξόδου έχει θετικά αλλά και αρνητικά χαρακτηριστικά.

Όπως τονίζει ο Διονύσης Ρίζος, που είναι ειδικός σε θέματα εργατικού και ασφαλιστικού δικαίου, πρόωρη ονομάζεται η χορήγηση της συνταξιοδοτικής παροχής σε χρόνο προγενέστερο από εκείνο που προβλέπει ο νόμος για την απόδοση της πλήρους σύνταξης.

Συνοδεύεται από μείωση επί του ποσού που θα λάμβανε ο ασφαλισμένος στην περίπτωση ανάλογα με τον φορέα (ιδιωτικό ή δημόσιος τομέας). Έτσι η πρόωρη σύνταξη στις περισσότερες περιπτώσεις ταυτίζεται λόγω της ποινής με την μειωμένη.
